In 2011 we regained the title in the Bournemouth & District BA Division 1. We were not so successful in Division 2 were the team ended up in the relegation position and the 3rd team who play in Division 5 will be there again next year. We did win the Hampshire Club Championship Trophy and also made the semifinal of the National Top Club Competition.
Since 2010 we have had lady members and these numbers are steadily growing.
During the season we held 3 Open days to encourage more local people into the sport and were very pleased with the response, further Open Days are planned for the coming years. Some of them became members and they will be eligible for friendly matches against the many touring teams who visit us form all parts of the UK each summer. In time they could progress to playing in league teams either on Tuesays and Saturdays. All our members are encouraged to try their skills out in our club competitions, B & D BA and the Hampshire BA Competitions which lead to the National Championships.
The prestigous BOURNEMOUTH TOURNAMENT use our green in the first week of August each year thus enabling our members to watch well known international bowlers from far and wide showing their competitive skills.
The Club celebrated the centenary of our green in 2004 when Ian Morrell the EBA President brought 24 international players / officials to our picturesque green seen in the pictured above. The setting is easily found at the corner of Woodland Avenue, Boscombe and the Southbourne Overcliff Drive .
Our picturesque 1927 Pavilion has had various facilities added by our members over the last few years and now incorporates a small homely bar, improved toilet facilities (including a unisex disabled/ladies). There is still very limited changing facilities due to the space restrictions within the building but this is currently being addressed.
Within the confines of the Pavilion is a Public Café which Paul and his helpful staff serve breakfast, lunches, cream teas and snacks from 9.00 till 5.00. There is a regular clientele for his Sunday Lunches.
Please do come along and pay us a visit soon, for its never too late to enjoy this sport, the more the merrier.
